We Are Casting a Wide Net
Spring is the season when the Richmond Hill Council (which functions as the Board of the organization) seeks new members for the coming term, as well as soliciting names for our many committees. We would like to open the process up and ask you to consider volunteering to serve Richmond Hill in one of these capacities. We also invite you to nominate someone else who might be a good fit for our work.
A little information about the Council and the committees:
Council – Public members of the Council serve for an initial term of 3 years, renewable once by mutual agreement for another term of 3 years. Similar to most non-profit boards, the Council is charged with overseeing the management and care of the mission, operations, and property of Richmond Hill. Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month, every other month, and members are also expected to serve on two committees. Council members are not involved in the day-to-day operations of Richmond Hill; rather, their concern is the overall health of the organization and its mission.
Committees – As with many organizations, much of the work of the Council is done on committees. They generally meet on the “off” months, when Council is not meeting, although a few committees meet monthly. While two members of each committee are from Council, other members are drawn from the wider Richmond Hill and metropolitan communities. A broad variety of experiences and voices are sought among the members of the committees, to ensure that many perspectives are represented in conversation and planning. The following committees are seeking new members:
- Community – Oversees the call and discernment process for members of the residential community; assesses and supports the overall health and well-being of the residential community
- Development – Helps direct fundraising for Richmond Hill’s core operations, including facilities & grounds
- Facilities – Helps direct the care, maintenance, and renovation of Richmond’s Hill building and grounds
- Finance – Oversees Richmond Hill’s financial condition (including annual budget and monthly reporting), its investments, and its risk management
- Garden – This is a brand new committee that is still being formed. Will support efforts to sustain the garden as a place of sacredness, mindfulness, and ecological justice
- Governance – Oversees Council and committee governance processes; recommends new Council members and officers
- Hospitality – Helps create and maintain a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere in service to others and receiving guests in love and a spirit of prayer
- Program – Helps direct programs and assesses program effectiveness in fulfilling Richmond Hill’s mission
We ask you to prayerfully consider if you are called to serve the mission of Richmond Hill in any of these capacities, or if you know someone else who may be interested. This is exciting, important work, and we know that there is a great deal of talent and creativity among the Richmond Hill community.
If would like to self-nominate or nominate another, please fill out the form below. The form is designed to be used if you are nominating yourself or another person. Please use a separate form for each person. Once submitted, you (or your nominee) will be contacted about the possibility of joining Council or a committee. Filling out the form does not equate to a commitment – it simply indicates interest. Through conversation and discernment, a mutual decision will be made about whether this is the right step for you or your nominee.
Thank you for considering serving our shared mission to the city through this vital work!
