VOCARE School for Vocation begins Fall 2013
God calls each of us. This school is intended to provide tools, space, and community for discerning God’s call in each of our lives. It comprises a series of retreats, workshops, and small groups. The fall retreats and workshops are intended to allow us to look deeply into look ourselves, how God has made and gifted each of us, and then to move outward into engagement in the world. The spring retreats and monthly meetings will provide a community of facilitated small groups in which we will identify “markers on the vocational journey” within the month — what we have felt good about and where we have seen our gifts present.
Fall Tuesday sessions: Tuesday sessions will run on the first and third Tuesday of the month in the fall. Each session will begin with a member of the Richmond Hill Community sharing how a given topic has informed their own sense of vocation. This 20 minute session plus ten minutes of questions will weave personal narrative with teaching on the topic at hand. Participants will then break into their small groups to discuss the topic in relation to their own lives weaving in the teaching and book that they have read beforehand. Sessions will run in total from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Participants will be given a spiritual practice related to topic.
Spring Small Groups: The small groups will meet monthly with two facilitators from the School for Vocation Faculty. The meetings will take place on the last Tuesday of each month and will ask the questions: what did you feel good doing the previous month and where did you see your gifts operating? These questions and the community provide clarity and support in this next phase of the vocational journey.
