Transcending Walls Project
In 2022, Richmond Hill and Mending Walls RVA embarked on a collaborative public art project— to create a mural on the approximately 500 ft wall that borders the south side of the Richmond Hill property. Five artists came together to dream up a vision around the theme of “Transcending Walls,” asking the question: what does it look like to transcend walls, both here at Richmond Hill and in our metropolitan city?
After months of community engagement, design, planning, and painting, we are thrilled to share that this transformative project is complete!
Come check out the completed mural on the south side of the Richmond Hill property, and learn all about the artists and the symbols behind their vision— we highly recommend you check out the artist’ statements here.
We host tours of the Richmond Hill “Transcending Walls” mural and Dwelling of Enslaved Africans. Together, the Wall and Dwelling tell a powerful story — one of reckoning with the history of the land we live on as we imagine a future of justice and peace.
Tours can be scheduled Tuesday – Sunday. Contact Rev. Daniel Willson, Group Retreat Coordinator, at 804-783-7903 or by email for more information or to schedule a tour.
