Healing from hate — Jan. 18, this Saturday, 2 pm
We invite you to join us for a powerful conversation @ 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 18th.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Darkness cannot combat darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot combat hate. Only Love can do that.”
Join us on Saturday, January 18, at 2:00 pm in the Richmond Hill Chapel for an evening discussion that navigates three different but intersecting tales that tap into the root afflictions driving the exasperating polarization, hate and extremism we see surfacing across American society today.
- Jesse Morton, after a long trek into and out of jihadist extremism, now works to combat hate-based ideologies and those that espouse them.
- Darryl Davis is a world-renowned African American Blues and R & B musician, author, expert in race relations and activist with experience engaging members of the Ku Klux Klan and establishing dialogue with those he has every reason to hate.
- Mimi Olive, a lifetime healer and social activist who, as the granddaughter of the Rev. Vernon Johns, uncle of Barbara Johns and a mentor of Martin Luther King Jr., understands first-hand the power of hope and the agency of love.
After sharing their stories, a discussion will follow to engage the audience in consideration of a process for individual and collective healing and how a shift in consciousness can help us heal from the hate.
