Richmond Friends Community Answers the Call for Literacy Justice at Redd Elementary
A few months ago, the Richmond Friends community reached out with a question: How could they collectively address a justice-related issue in Richmond? As they searched for meaningful ways to make an impact, their hearts were drawn to the need for literacy among vulnerable students. That search led them to the Micah Initiative, where they found the perfect opportunity to plug in and make a difference.
Initially, the group anticipated they might recruit four or five volunteers to begin mentoring at Redd Elementary. However, as their enthusiasm spread and word got out, the response was nothing short of inspiring. Today, eleven dedicated members of the Richmond Friends community have stepped forward, excited and ready to commit their time each week to mentoring students. These volunteers will provide not only academic support but also consistent encouragement and care—an investment that can transform a child’s future.
Their story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people join together to address a shared need. It also highlights the impact that dedicated individuals can have on the lives of students across our city.
