Finding Balance: Body, Mind, and Heart
October 30, Saturday, 10 am – noon, on Zoom
Anxiety, fear, stress, isolation and division are all common reactions to this pandemic ridden world in which we have lived for the last eighteen months. Our cultural response remains in a “fight or flight” response, resulting in a constant state of stress. Compassion, empathy and kindness, for ourself and for others, take a back seat to survival. How do we possibly find balance? How do we unite our heart with our mind, and begin to find a sense of well being in our bodies? The ancient practices of yoga, mindfulness and meditation have withstood the test of time as tools for restoration in body, mind and heart.
Join us on October 30 for an experiential workshop on Finding Balance. Begin to explore how these ancient practices may help you better cope with our modern world. In this two hour workshop (via Zoom), we will:
- Learn how others have benefited from a consistent yoga practice
- Practice a short chair yoga sequence
- Experience the power of breath work
- Quiet the mind with guided meditations
- Learn the fundamentals of mindfulness
- Explore a heart mind unification loving kindness practice
- Identify ways to incorporate these practices in your day-to-day life
For this workshop, please have a sturdy chair available, preferably without arms, and wear clothes in which you can freely move. To completely immerse in this experience, you may choose to set up your Zoom in an area free from distractions.
Facilitators:
Sarah Eck is a RYT-200 yoga teacher and has substantially completed her hours toward her RYT-500 hour certification. A perpetual student of yoga, Sarah’s teaching reflects her interests in creative sequencing, breathwork, anatomy, and yoga philosophy. Her hope is that her students find a sense of well being, inner peace and personal discovery as they progress in the shared experience of yoga practice. Sarah teaches weekly community classes via Zoom at St. James’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, VA. When not practicing yoga, Sarah lives in central Virginia caring for her horses, dogs and farm.
Fraser Davis is a certified mindfulness meditation teacher offering classes and workshops to individuals, groups, schools and organizations. She is certified by the Greater Good Science Center, University of California, Berkeley having completed their two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program. She is also a RYT-200 yoga instructor. She has shifted her attention from her first calling as a landscape architect to focus her time on bringing people together to explore their full potential through mindfulness and yoga practices. Her role as a mother of four teen-aged boys has also played a part in her understanding of the wisdom, growth and learning that comes from approaching life as it IS rather than how one thinks it SHOULD BE. A mindful approach requires work and courage but brings greater peace and more possibility of living an intentional life.
